Chitlang Village Homestay Trekking

Chitlang Village trekking is very easy trek which is very close to the Capital city Kathmandu of Nepal. Where as Chitlang is an ancient traditional Newari village of Makawanpur District surrounded by beautiful green forest., situated about 22 km in the south west of Kathmandu. It is much closed to Kulekhani, Indera Sarowar Lake (the largest lake by man made). The big peach garden, beautiful landscape and the largest grazing land, Newari Buddhist stupa, Satadhara (Hindu religious site with 7 historical stone Taps) are the major attraction of Chitlang. The people of the Chitlang Valley are hospitable. The peoples are friendly behave is hospitality and heartily welcome to all the visitors. There are mixture of different castes and ethnic groups. The main ethnic populations are Newar, Tamang, Khas etc. The people of the community are very frank in nature, they are eager to share their knowledge with the guest and dine together. According to the Inscriptions dating back to Lichchavi, Chitlang was only one “On foot Highway” to get India and the Southern part of Nepal and Amshubarma had given the land to shepherds. Some historians believe that these people called Gopalis are the descendants of rulers of Gopal era.
Chitlang trek offers homestay accommodation, where as you will get a chance to experience the  traditional way  of living and ethnic cultural lifestyle of the people living here are the special features of Chitlang. The trek start from holy place Matatirha, near of Thankot, continue to the picturesque trail the Chandragiri Hill 2475m, from where aprecevoir spectacular view of Langtang range as well as panoramic of Kathmandu valley and reached Chitlang village, and the trek ends at Pharping after crossing Markhu Village and enjoyed boating (indrasarovar lake) at Kulekhani.


Day 01: KATHMANDU – CHITLANG / 5 hrs.
Departure from Kathmandu to Matatirtha by local bus. The holy place “Matatirtha” is closed to Thankot. Start trek from Matatirtha, quite 2 hours steep climb, arrived at Chandragiri Hill 2280m, from where we can observe an excellent views of Ganesh Himal (7102 m), Langtang (7234 m), Shisha Pangma (8013 m), Dorje Lakpa (6966 m), Phurbi Ghyachu (6637 m), Chhoba Bhamare (5970 m), Gauri Shankher (7134 m), Melungtse (7181 m) Himalayas in far distance as well as over looking beautiful valley of Kathmandu then continue till Chitlang Deurali 2000m, then continue to descend around 2 hrs through the tropical forest arrived at Chitlang village for Lunch and Camp. After lunch, Visit Bicharithok community forest, village walk in Mewari tribes and Satdhara (Hindu religious site with 7 historical stone Taps). Night in home stay.

Day 02: CHITLANG –MARKHU 1430m / 3hrs
After Breakfast village tour with Pack Lunch. Visit to the traditional Newari home, goat farm test of goat cheese then take lunch in local Newari house, then trek to Markhu. The trek will be along the village terraces cultivated field, meeting local people and life style of the country side and reach camp at markhu beside Kule khani Lake (dam) for over night stay. Night in home stay.

Day 03: MARKHU – PURANDI 1750m / 4hrs
Departure from Markhu to Purandi, a Tamang settlement to experience their country lifestyle and traditions. Trek along the village road with view of kule khani Lake and beautiful valley view or short walk along the ridge then through the thick forest following animal greasing path to Reach Purandi village for over night camp. Night in home stay.

Day 04: PURANDI – KAPHLENI 1600m / 3hrs
This day, in the begin, start gradual climb and trek along the ridge through the mixed forest to open animal grazing spot for breath taking himalayan views. Slowly descend to the camp at tranquil Kapleni village for over night stay. Night in home stay.


Day 05 : PURANDI – PHARPING – Kathmandu
Leaving Purandi village in morning then trek to Pharping, which is small newer village then visit Hindu temple at Dakshin Kali and visit Buddhist monastery at Pharping. After lunch, back to Kathmandu by local bus.
